Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelles recorded a win in his debut game in charge of the team and was effusive with praises of his players.
Nigeria’s World Cup qualification chances were floundering after three draws and a defeat in the four previous Group C qualifying matches.
The three-time African champions required wins on Friday and in the upcoming Tuesday’s home game against Zimbabwe to bounce back to the reckoning.
The three points were achieved in Kigali and Chelles spoke to the media in his post-match press conference where he expressed his elation at the outcome.
“It was a difficult game, Rwanda has a great team. I am proud of my player’s performance.
“We worked a lot within the few days. We had just two full training sessions.
“(Today), we keep the ball in the second half, good performance from my guys (players),” the Franco-Malian noted.
South Africa tops Group C of the qualifying series with 10 points while Benin Republic are behind the Bafana Bafana with eight points.
The Eagles now occupy the third spot with six points and will likely assure the second and third-placed teams with a win on Tuesday.
