Nigeria’s chances of a 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualification suffered a major setback on Tuesday as the three-time African champions Super Eagles were beaten 3-0 by Guinea-Bissau in their second Group L fixture.
The hosts broke the deadlock in the 15th minute through right winger Franculino Djú, who went past Bruno Onyemaechi to find the bottom left corner. Nigeria goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali was rooted to the spot and could not stop the ball.
Alex Iwobi created a good chance for Ademola Lookman, but the Atletico Madrid star was denied by the opposition keeper Fernando Emadje in the first half.
Mama Balde made it 2-0 as he wriggled his way into the Nigerian box before finding space for a great finish.
Alvaro Djaro made the evening a complete disaster for Nigeria as he made it 3-0 with a sublime effort from the edge of the box.
The Eagles will face co-hosts of the AFCON, Tanzania, who already have one of the tickets to the tournament on Matchdays 3 and 4 in November.
