Three-time African champions Nigeria came from a goal down to beat Madagascar 2-1 to begin their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign on a promising note.
The visitors took a deserved 16th-minute lead when centre-back Ehsan Kari evaded the Super Eagles’ offside trap and headed in from close range.
The Eagles were under immense pressure, but debutant George Ilenikhena received a great pass from Alex Iwobi and equalised in added time in the first half.
The Eagles were without Galatasaray striker Victor Osimhen, who was ruled out due to a muscle injury.
Another debutant, Moses Usor, grabbed the second goal ahead of the team’s game against Guinea-Bissau away on Tuesday.
Guinea-Bissau bested co-hosts Tanzania 2-0 earlier on Friday.
