Arsenal on Tuesday night got a reprieve as the Premier League upheld the decision to suspend left-back Myles Lewis-Skelly after the controversial penalty against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday.

Lewis-Skelly was sent off in the second half of Arsenal’s 1-0 win but much of the game’s review was centred on the sending off of the young Englishman by referee Michael Oliver.

Substitute Riccardo Calafiori scored the decisive goal in the 74th minute as the Gunners continue to pile pressure on leaders, Liverpool, at the top of the table.

Lewis-Skelly became the third youngest player to be dismissed in Premier League history, but the Gunners lodged an appeal following a public outcry over Oliver’s action.

The PGMOL, the body in charge of match officials in England, defended Michael Oliver stoutly and condemned in strong terms the online abuse suffered by the 39-year-old official and his family.

The FA said in a release on Tuesday: “An independent regulatory commission has upheld a claim of wrongful dismissal about Myles Lewis-Skelly and removed hod three-match suspension.

“The Arsenal player was sent off for serious foul play dieing their Premier League fixture against Wolves on Saturday, January 25.

According to reports in most UK football websites on Tuesday evening, such as BBC and Breaking News, Lewis-Skelly has trained with his teammates ahead of the UEFA Champions League tie against Girona.
