Folashade Rafiatu Lawal earned Nigeria’s second gold medal at the 2022 Commonwealth Games.
On Sunday, in the women’s 59kg weightlifting competition, the 25-year-old took home the medal.
Lawal achieved a Commonwealth record for cumulative lifts by lifting 206 kg.

She also broke the Commonwealth record in the snatch category after lifting 90 kg on her first attempt.
The weightlifter also broke the clean and jerk record by lifting 110, 115, and 116 kilograms in each of her efforts.
Adijat Olarinoye and Umoafia Joseph placed first and third in their respective weightlifting categories, making Lawal’s gold the third medal for Nigeria in the games.
The men’s table tennis team from Nigeria earlier also qualified for the semi-final after defeating Malaysia 3-2 in the quarter-final.
Bode Abiodun and Olajide Omotayo’s Nigerian team lost the first game 3-1 before coming back to upset the Asian team.
