Congo has been disqualified from the postponed 2024 African Nations Championship now scheduled to hold in August 2025.
Congo was one of the teams in Group D of the tournament which also consisted of Nigeria’s Super Eagles following the recent draw that was conducted by the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
However, the country’s flag will not be hoisted when Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania, as they have been found to have played an ineligible player in their qualifying match against Equatorial Guinea.
Consequently, Equatorial Guinea will now take the place of Congo.
In addition to forfeiting the match and the ignominy of disqualification, the Congo Football Federation is also fined $10,000.
The fine is expected to be paid within 69 days.
The CHAN which showcases the best of players strutting their talents on the African talents was postponed due to logistical reasons.
