Chief of the Defence Forces’ Basketball championship, dubbed ‘CDF Bora Cup Basketball Tournament’ kicked off on 4th April 2022, at Moi Air Base (MAB) in Eastleigh, Nairobi.
The annual tournament is aimed at scouting for new talents for Ulinzi Warriors, KDF’s basketball team.
During the inaugural ceremony, the chairperson of the Defence Forces Basketball Association (DFBA) Brigadier Swaleh Saidi noted that Basketball, like any other sports discipline, not only contributes to physical fitness but also enhances esprit de corps in KDF.
“This event brings together teams drawn from various Formations and, Bases and offers a good platform for us to know each other better hence fostering unity and comradeship. It, therefore, calls for total commitment from all participants for the next five days,” said Brigadier Saidi.
He noted that stiff competition was expected amongst the teams but within the strict discipline of the military code of conduct and the International Basketball Federation’s Association laws (FIBA rules).
On his part, Deputy Base Commander Moi Air Base Colonel Tobias Vigisa urged the players to give their best.
The winner of the championship is set to be announced at the end of the tournament on Friday, 8th April.
