Nigeria international Calvin Bassey produced a man-of-the-match performance in 90 minutes but it was goalkeeper Bernd Leno who was ultimately the hero as Fulham beat Manchester United 4-3 on penalties to advance to the quarterfinals of the FA Cup on Sunday night.

The game had ended in a 1-1 at full time with Bruno Fernandes grabbing an equaliser for the Red Devils.

United had spurned a lot of goal-scoring chances in the first half but came alive in the second when Nigeria-eligible youngster Chido Obi Martins came close on two occasions but was denied by the impressive Leno.

Leno also denied Alejandro Garnacho while on the other end, Emile Smith Rowe saw his snap shot gathered by Andre Onana after he was teed up by Alex Iwobi.

Fulham are looking to emulate the feat of their side in 1975 when they reached the final of the competition – the only time they have done so.

The spot kicks were required to separate both sides and it was Vitor Lindelof and Joshua Zirkzee whose saved penalties handed the Cottagers a place in the quarterfinals.
