FIFA has reportedly dismissed Nigeria’s appeal over the eligibility of players from the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), ending the Super Eagles’ 2026 World Cup qualification hopes.
The DRC defeated Nigeria 4–3 on penalties after a 1–1 draw in the CAF playoff final on November 16 in Rabat.
Victor Osimhen scored for Nigeria before Cedric Bakambu equalised.
Nigeria would later protest, alleging that several DRC players, including Aaron Wan-Bissaka, breached FIFA’s dual-nationality rules.
However, FIFA has officially rejected the complaint due to a lack of sufficient evidence.
Nigeria are campaigning at the 35th edition of the Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco and defeated Tanzania 2-1 in their opening Group C fixture.
The three-time African champions will face Tunisia Saturday evening as they look to book a place in the round of 16.
