Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen will make for a very good signing for Arsenal in the January transfer window, reports The Standard Gazette.
Osimhen is currently on loan at Turkish giants, Galatasaray, from Serie A leaders, Napoli albeit there is a break clause reportedly inserted in the deal that took them home to Turkey.
However the Nigerian, according to various sources had hinted that he is keen to see out the season-long loan spell at his temporary base.
Clubs such as Chelsea, Manchester United and Saudi Arabian side, Al Ahli, were linked with the Nigerian back in the summer.
Arsenal legend Nigel Winterburn however feels that the Gunners will do well to convince all parties involved to see the former African Footballer of the Year sign for the north London side before the window shuts on February 3.
Injuries to Anglo-Nigerian superstar Bukayo Saka, as well as Gabriel Jesus who ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament and will be out of action for a long spell, have severely limited Arsenal’s attacking force with Kai Havertz and Gabriel Martinelli lightning rods of criticisms from the fan base.
Winterburn who faced some of the Premier League’s all-time best strikers as a left-back during his playing days is quoted by The Metro to have suggested three strikers for Mikel Arteta‘s side.
“Victor Osimhen has been heavily linked with Arsenal, as have the likes of RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko and Juventus forward Dusan Vlahovic,” Winterburn told William Hill Vegas.
“If you could guarantee Mikel Arteta that one of them can offer 20 to 25 goals a season, that would be great – but no one can guarantee that!
“The Gunners need a striker to take them to the next level, and that is to win the Premier League. I would take any of Rhode strikers – it doesn’t matter which one. What matters is who scored the most goals for this team and I’d be the best fit.
“Each option comes with it’s own attributes, but the priority is finding the one who can deliver goals consistently to fire Arsenal to the title. Addressing this issue in the squad could drive Arsenal to a league title,” Winterburn stressed.
The Gunners will take on Dinamo Zagreb on Wednesday night in the UEFA Champions League with a win sure to take them to the quarterfinals of the competition.
Manager Mikel Arteta has admitted in previous press conferences that the club needs to reinforce in the current window as injuries to key players continue to hinder title prospects.
