A Kenyan court has detained former rugby player Alex Olaba for seven days pending investigations into the alleged plot to murder a key witness in a gang rape case he is facing.
The suspect was arrested on Thursday night in Nairobi West while meeting an undercover detective planning to take away the life of the purported witness.
He appeared before Kenyan Senior Principal Magistrate Bernard Ochoi on Friday and was charged with attempted murder and conspiracy to defeat justice.

The court heard that Olaba attempted both directly and indirectly to murder the witness.
The prosecution requested to detain ex-Kenya’s Harlequins player for ten days, but the court detained him for seven days.
On the other hand, the defense lawyer wanted his client to be granted reasonable bail terms and requested him to be detained at a less crowded police station, preferably Nairobi’s Capitol Hill.
In his ruling, Senior Principal Magistrate Bernard ordered him to be detained at Kilimani Police Station, located within the city.
The case will be heard next week, Friday, April 30.
Olaba and his former teammate Frank Wanyama are accused of gang-raping a woman named WA on February 11, 2018, at Nairobi’s Highrise estate.
