Kenyan athlete Joyciline Jepkosgei is the current women’s London Marathon holder after winning the race at 2:17:43 on Sunday, October 3, 2021.
She beat her compatriot and the world-recorder holder Brigid Kosgei who finished fourth after clicking 2:18:40.
Ethiopians Dagitu Azimeraw and Ashete Bekere emerged second and third, respectively.
They took 2:17:58 and 2:18:18.
The win came on the same day when Bahrain’s Kalkidan Gezahegne broke her world record in the 10km race.
“It was fantastic to break the record and demonstrate what is possible, but now all I care about is winning here,” she said. “This is my biggest triumph since London is the best race in the world. I put in a lot of effort in my training and just tried to stay focused and avoid making any mistakes.”©Standard Gazette, 2021.
