Kenya Morans was on Tuesday night bundled out of the ongoing AfroBasket Championship following a 58-60 defeat to South Sudan in their quarter-final qualifier at the Kigali Arena, Rwanda.
South Sudan’s impressive start paid off as they began with 11 unanswered points before Kenya found themselves on the scoreboard.
Kenya’s opponent, making their first appearance in the competition, dominated all four quarters to book a date with the defending champions Tunisia on Thursday.
Results were as follows: First quarter Kenya 11-20 South Sudan, second Kenya 17-34, third Kenya 41-55 and fourth Kenya 58- 60 South Sudan.
Meanwhile, Kenya has been pooled in Group D of the 2023 FIBA World Cup qualifier. In a draw conducted on Tuesday, Morans were grouped alongside Egypt, Senegal and DRC.
The East Africans made it to the qualifiers by taking part in this year’s AfroBasket Championship.
In other draws, Group A has Uganda, Nigeria, Cape Verde and Mali, while Cameroon, South Sudan, Tunisia and Rwanda will battle it out in Group B.
