Kenya Rugby Sevens Eyeing Paris Olympics Ticket in Zimbabwe
Kenya national rugby sevens team have arrived in Harare, Zimbabwe, ahead of the Rugby Africa 7S tournament slated for the weekend.
Kenya is drawn alongside Zambia, Namibia and Nigeria in group B.
The East African powerhouse will play against Nigeria on Saturday at 11:06am EAT before locking horns with Namibia at 1:50pm EAT.
Their last group match will be against Zambia later at 4:34pm EAT.
The Rugby Africa 7s is an annual competition for the African continental championship in rugby union’s sevens format.
This year, it will also serve as the African qualification event for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, France.
The winner of the Rugby Africa 7s will earn direct qualification to the Paris 2024 Olympics.
Consequently, the second and third-placed teams will join the second and third-placed teams from Asia, Europe, Oceania, North America, and South America in the Final Qualification Tournament, which will take place in June 2024 for the 12th and final Olympic slot.
The top two teams from the Rugby Africa 7s will also be eligible to compete in the World Rugby Challenger Series in 2024.
South Africa is in Group A with Madagascar, Tunisia and Ivory Coast.
