Kenya’s national women’s basketball team has jetted out to Yaoundé, Cameroon, ahead of the 2021 Fiba AfroBasket Championships scheduled from September 18-25.

The team travelled without instrumental forward Felmas Koronga, who the Troy University of the US did not release.

Head coach George Mayienga made unexpected changes before the team left the country.

“Koranga is not coming and her replacement is a newcomer. We have not even tried her before…After the AfroBasket in Cameroon, we want to build more post players locally,” said former player Angela Luchivya.

The Lionesses are pooled in Group A alongside the host Cameroon and Cape Verde. They will play the host on Saturday.

Kenya’s squad include Rose Ouma, Melissa Akinyi, Victoria Reynolds, Brenda Wasuda and Ivy Opicho.

Others are Natalie Akinyi, Jemmimah Knight, Christine Akinyi, Georgia Adhiambo, Vilma Achieng’, Mercy Wanyama and Selina Okumu.
