Zoo Kericho FC has been banned from participating in the Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FK-PL) after being found guilty of match-fixing.

Fifa’s disciplinary committee, led by Alejandro Piera, the Deputy Chairman of Fifa’s Disciplinary Committee, said there are pieces of evidence linking the club to manipulation of football matches and competition.

“The club Zoo FC is hereby expelled from the Kenyan Premier League Season 2020/2021 as of the  date of notification of the present decision,” read the statement from Fifa.

The world football governing body also ordered the team to be relegated to the FKF Division One, effective 2021/2022 season.

The committee further directed the club to contact Fifa in the next 30 days to implement a prevention plan against the manipulation of football matches.

According to rules governing FKF-PL, if a club is expelled before the end of the first leg, all the teams who had won against it are deducted three points. If expelled in the second leg, all teams are awarded three points each.

Some of the teams expected to lose three points are the defending champions Gor Mahia, the league leaders Tusker, Nzoia Sugar, Bidco United, Sofapaka, Nairobi City Stars, and Wazito FC.

Zoo was the last team in the log of 18 teams with eight points after playing 14 matches in which it won once, draw five times, and lost eight matches.
