Super Eagles head coach Eric Sekou Chelles had emphasized the team’s resolve to beat home side, Rwanda, in Friday’s crucial 2026 World Cup qualifying game in Antananarivo, reports The Standard Gazette.
The three-time African champions are currently fourth in Group C of the World Cup qualification campaign on the African continent, with three points from four games.
Speaking at Thursday’s press conference ahead of the game, Chelles underlines his desire to understand his players in what will be his first match in charge of the team.
“I just want to be with my players. I want them to focus on this game, and after that, we’ll think about the others. We need to win this game,” the Franco-Malian told the media on Thursday.
The game on Friday evening kicks off at 5 pm local time (4 pm UK time).
The 23 players who made the final cut for the qualifiers against Rwanda and Zimbabwe are intensifying preparations for the game on Friday. Thursday evening training is not open to the media.
