On Sunday, Tusker FC was confirmed as the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Premier League champions.
Before the match, the Breweries needed a single point to pip their closest opponent KCB FC.
The 2016 champions edged out Bidco FC in a must-win game played at Utalii Ground in Nairobi.
Rodgers Aloro and Henry Meja put the game behind their opponent through their first-half goals. David Orem pulled one back for Bidco in the second off.
Tusker FC coach Robert Matano expressed satisfaction with his charges performance throughout the season.
“We can now celebrate, we can look back with pride at the work we have done. Everyone worked hard for it and the belief has finally been rewarded,” he said.
Kenya Breweries Limited (KBL) Managing Director John Musunga could not hide his joy after Tusker won their 12th title in the history of Kenyan football.
“We are incredibly proud of the team for being crowned the champions of the FKF Premier League 2020/2021. The team has performed exceptionally well throughout the season, and the trophy is duly deserved. I must applaud the work and effort that the players and staff have put in throughout the season to get to where they are.
As KBL, we will celebrate the team’s triumph as we now look towards the upcoming CAF Champions League, where we expect a positive showing from the boys. A win for Tusker is a win for Kenya Breweries as the team emulates the values and ideals we celebrate every day. The indomitable spirit our boys have shown throughout the season is remarkable,” said Musunga.©Standard Gazette, 2021.
