Inter Milan booked their berth in the 2024/2025 UEFA Champions League final Tuesday night with a scintillating 4-3 win over Barcelona to advance 7-6 on aggregate over two legs in the semifinals, reports The Standard Gazette.
Barcelona with Lamine Yamal pulling the strings and giving Inter all sorts of headaches at the San Siro pegged back the Italian giants the same way the first leg went.
However, Simone Inzaghi’s Inter went ahead in the 21st minute through Lautaro Martinez who poked home from close range after a pass from Marcus Thuram.
The Serie A champions were awarded a penalty late into the first half when Martinez was stopped by Martin Curbasi fouled inside the box.
The incident was checked by the referee whose verdict was that the Argentine was impeded.
Hakan Calhanoglu stepped up to convert his 4th goal in 7 Champions League games this season.
Francesco Acerbi scored what proved to be an offside goal before Eric Garcia reduced the arrears in the 54th minute with a measured strike from the edge of the box.
The former Man City defender had another chance via a header thwarted the impressive Yann Sommer in goal for Inter.
However, Dani Olmo’s textbook header restored parity with an hour played.
There was a penalty shout for Barcelona but it was overlooked by the referee.
Raphinha put Barcelona ahead in the 88th minute but Acerbi ensured an edgy end to the contest with a 90th minute goal.
Davide Frattesi scored a 99th-minute goal of extra time to see park wild scenes at the San Siro as they now await the winner of the PSG versus Arsenal clash on Wednesday night.
