Kenya’s wait for the gold medal in the ongoing Tokyo Olympic Games to continue after winning bronze in the women’s 3000m steeplechase.
Uganda’s Peruth Chemutai,22, produced a last-lap impressive performance to clinch gold for Kenya’s neighbour in 9:01:45.
The 22-year-old has become the first-ever Ugandan female athlete to win gold at the Olympics, in addition to setting a record in the women’s steeplechase.
Courtney Frerichs of the USA came second in 9:04:79, and Kenya’s Hyvin Kiyeng finished in the third position in 9:05:39.
World record holder Beatrice Chepkoech came seventh, clocking 9:16:33.
