Uganda denies Kenya gold in Tokyo Olympics

Kenya's wait for the gold medal in the ongoing Tokyo Olympic Games to continue after winning bronze in the women's 3000m steeplechase.

Uganda’s Peruth Chemutai,22, produced a last-lap impressive performance to clinch gold for Kenya’s neighbour in 9:01:45.

The 22-year-old has become the first-ever Ugandan female athlete to win gold at the Olympics, in addition to setting a record in the women’s steeplechase.

Courtney Frerichs of the USA came second in 9:04:79, and Kenya's Hyvin Kiyeng finished in the third position in 9:05:39.

World record holder Beatrice Chepkoech came seventh, clocking 9:16:33.
