Former Governor of Oyo State, Otunba Adebayo Christopher Alao-Akala, a former Governor of Oyo State, is reported dead. The politician, who had been battling the terminal ailment for a while, died in his Ogbomoso country home, on Wednesday morning, according to sources. Akala was the governor of Oyo state between 2007 and 2011. A family friend of the deceased who confirmed his death to newsmen on Wednesday morning said he died in his room. "It is true that Oga is dead. He died in the early hours of Wednesday in his room in Ogbomoso. He was full of life last night. In fact, I heard he was playing with his children before he went to bed. We are in a mourning mood now,” he said. In the meantime, Governor Seyi Makinde has mourned the passing of the former Governor in a statement posted on his Facebook page, "I join the good people of Oyo State to mourn the passing of a former Governor of our dear state, Otunba Christopher Alao-Akala, which sad event took place today. May his soul rest in peace and may God grant his family the fortitude to bear this great loss. I have directed that flags fly at half-mast in honour of Governor Alao-Akala, our brother, friend and illustrious son of Oyo State. His Excellency will be remembered for his contributions to the development of Oyo State as Governor, especially for taking infrastructural development to other zones of the state outside Ibadan. He died at the age of 72.
