Jennifer Douglas, ex-Vice President Atiku Abubakar's estranged wife, has acknowledged that their marriage is finished. She stated this in a statement issued by Punch in response to allegations that she divorced Atiku because he married another lady. She was aware that as a Muslim, he was entitled to more than one wife, according to her. Mrs Jennifer revealed that the real reason for the divorce was a disagreement over her decision to stay in London with their children. Her words, "The core reason for the divorce was disagreement over my continued stay in the United Kingdom, to look after my children and several other long-standing issues. "I needed to play the role of a mother at this time to the children who have gone through the absence of both father and mother growing up; especially, with the passage of my elder sister who used to look after them. Furthermore, in light of COVID-19 times, choosing to stay with the children was non-negotiable. And, in line with Northern culture, the new wife takes up the baton so I can also focus on giving the kids more care." She also accused Atiku of reclaiming their Asokoro matrimonial home, which he had given her earlier in their marriage as a gift. She claimed that when she requested a divorce, the former Vice President demanded that she return the house's documents. When she asked where he wanted her to stay with their children if she came to Nigeria, he advised her to find a place to stay because she was the one who initiated the divorce.
