Edo police said four suspects injured during a shootout in Uzea forest in Esan North-East local government area have died. Standard Gazette reported on 11 May 2022 how Anti kidnapping and cybercrime team and the local vigilante group arrested four suspected herdsmen turned kidnappers in Ughoha and Ubiaja. The suspects, Mohammed Amedu' M' (29), Shaibu Lawal' M' (30), Nasiru Mohammed' M' (31) and Mohammed Ibrahim' M' (28), assisted the investigators and took them to their kidnapping den, where officers exchanged gunfire with the gang. Two suspects killed during the gun duel in the forest Two of the suspects were killed, while the four suspects who had led the police into their hideouts allegedly sustained injuries. The suspects were taken to the nearest hospital for treatment and were pronounced dead on the evening of 06 May 2022. Police had had a tip that some suspected kidnappers were attacking motorists travelling along Uromi-Ubiaja, and some travellers were forced into Uzea forest in Uromi. Standard Gazette learned that the victims were rescued unhurt after the gun duel. Some arms and ammunition were recovered from the dead suspects including one AK 47 rifle, five live ammunition, one pump action gun and one double-barrel gun. One of the kidnappers who was able to speak to Newsmen before he gave up the ghost said, "I am from Kano state. I was brought here to push cow, but my leader gave us guns to kidnap so we could make more money. "We usually go to the road to kidnap and take them into the Bush so that they give us money. The name of our leader is Ahmadu". Edo State Police Public Relations officer SP Bello Kontongs said the police will continue to neutralise anyone or group of persons who tend to kidnap or engage in any criminal activities in Edo state.
