The MP for the Awutu Senya East, Mavis Hawa Koomson has admitted shooting at a polling unit in her constituency.
Koomson said she did it to protect herself as none of her police escorts was around at the time.
On Monday, NDC Parliamentary Candidate Naa Koryoo Okunor accused the lady MP, who is the incumbent MP of masterminding the violence that was recorded in the voting centre.
Officials of the Electoral Commission had closed down The Kosoa Peace Town Top Hill Down Polling station after unknown gun-wielding men stormed the premises.
Men, numbering 15 reportedly arrived at the registration centre at about 08:00hrs and attempted to sack and scared voters.
Responding to the accusation, MP Koomson, who is also Special Development Initiatives Minister, told Adom FM that “None of my men had guns on then when we got to the centre. I fired the shots myself,”
She alleged that she rushed down to the centre after receiving a tip that her opponent had arrived with a busload of people from other places to the voting centre.
“I’m a Member of Parliament, I need to protect myself. It was at dawn, my police escort had not started work yet. So that is a mechanism I have adopted in his absence,” she said.
Meanwhile, the police disclosed four persons have been arrested in connection to the incident.
