The body of Kezia Obama will arrive in Kenya from the UK next week, her son Malik Obama confirmed.
Kezia Obama was the first wife of Barack Obama Snr, the father of the former US President Barack Obama.
She was the mother to Obama’s half-sibling Auma Obama, Malik Obama, and Abo Obama.
Kezia died at a UK hospital on April 13, aged 81, after a long illness, and the family had difficulties in airlifting his body home.
Last week Malik told the media that a small committee was formed in the UK to oversee the issuance of the death certificate.
“The death certificate has not been issued. The hospital updated that it may be issued on Monday or Tuesday next week,” Malik told the Star, the local daily.
Consequently, the family launched a fund drive to solicit funds for funeral expenses both in the UK and rural home in Kogelo, Siaya County.
“We are bringing Mama Keziah home to rest with us. Grateful for donations to: Mpesa: 0726634050 (+254),” stated the card shared on social media.
The family source, which sought anonymity, told the Star that the body would land at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) on Tuesday morning.
It would be airlifted to Kisumu International Airport, where it will be collected by relatives and ferried by road to her rural home for an overnight stay ahead of burial on Wednesday.
