Information, Communications and the Digital Economy Cabinet Secretary, Mr. Eliud Owalo, urged parastatals to use technology to transform their institutions and the country’s economy.
Owalo said that state-owned institutions should tap into the digital infrastructure being rolled out at the Konza Technopolis to unlock their potential and position the country as Africa’s Silicon Savanna and leader in digitalisation.
While calling for sectoral regulatory framework reforms, Owalo noted that the institutions should take the lead in both the ICT and Telecommunications sector to enhance their visibility on the international stage.

The CS, who was accompanied by ICT and the Digital Economy Principal Secretary (PS), Eng. Tanui spoke while on a familiarisation tour of the Kenya Institute of Mass Communication (KIMC), the National Communications Secretariat (NCS)and the Office of the Data Protection Commissioner (ODPC).
He noted that research and institutional reforms can help address challenges brought about by adopting new technologies and the digitalisation process.
Owalo lauded the NCS for its leadership role in offering ICT advisory services, where he assured of the ministry’s support in providing an enabling working environment.
He lauded the crucial role played by ODPC Under the leadership of the Data Commissioner, Ms. Immaculate Kassait, in the digitisation agenda by enforcing Cyber Security and Data Protection.
The CS who went on air at KIMC’s ECN radio station called on the students to take their studies seriously, where he assured of the ministry’s commitment to supporting the institution in its agenda of training mass media professionals in the emerging digital world.
On his part, Eng. Tanui called on NCS to collaborate with other parastatals, including the Kenya Broadcasting Corporation, KIMC, Kenya News Agency and the Postal Corporation of Kenya.
Eng. Tanui further called on the institutions to be innovative and forge meaningful partnerships with public and private sector players for capacity enhancement.
