The Kenyan government established a joint committee to probe the operations and activities of Worldcoin.

This organization was recently collecting iris details of Kenyans for cryptocurrency trade.

National Assembly Speaker Wetang’ula said the 15 Member joint committee would be constituted from amongst Members of the Departmental Committee on Information, Communication and Innovation, the Administration and Internal Security Committee, and Wildlife and Tourism.

“The speaker will thereafter appoint the Chairperson of the Joint Committee from amongst Members drawn from the Departmental Committee on Administration and Internal Security,” read a statement released by the National Assembly.

The mandate of the Joint Committee is to inquire into the activities and operations of Worldcoin in Kenya and the relevant Ministries, Departments and Agencies whose appointments have a bearing on the matter.

The committee should submit its report by Thursday, September 28, 2023.

The Formation of the joint Committee followed concerns raised by Members of Parliament on measures taken by the government to protect the security of its citizens’ data collected by the company.

WorldCoin’s activities were suspended in the country over security concerns in July 2023.
