15 years in Jail for Police Officer Who Defiled Minor

A Kenyan court on Tuesday sentenced a police officer to 15 years in prison after finding him guilty of defiling a young girl.

Migori High Court Resident Magistrate Angela Munyuny also found Howard Omwaha guilty of committing an indecent act with a child.

The court was told that the officer committed the act between March and April 2021 at his home while the victim was babysitting for his wife.

After defiling the minor, Omwaha gave her Ksh1000 () and warned her against telling anyone.

As a result of the defilement, the young girl got pregnant and delivered a child.

The Prosecution said the officer later gave the family some money as support for the baby to buy their silence.

Omwaha has two weeks to appeal against the ruling.
