A 29-year-old man has committed suicide in West Pokot, Kenya’s Rift Valley.
The body of Felix Yego was found dangling on the rooftop of his rental house on Monday morning by his neighbours, who have been looking for him.
According to the local police boss Jackson Tumwet, the deceased neighbours got worried when they did not see him for two days. They pushed his door as their search for him intensified, only to discover he had locked himself from the inside.
To gain access to the room, they were forced to break the door where the body was found hanging with a bedsheet on his kneck.
Preliminary investigations revealed that there were no visible injuries on his body. However, there was a suicide note on a table within the house bidding farewell to family and friends. His phone also had similar messages sent to his sister, girlfriend, and uncle.
The reason why he took away his life is yet to be established.
A section of Kenyans has expressed their shock over a surge in suicide cases in the country as they urge their compatriots to reach out to their neighbours, friends, and families during this time of economic crisis.
Statistics released by the police recently showed that 483 Kenyans had committed suicide in the last three months.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) attributed the rise of the menace to mental issues. It was found that more men take away their lives compared to women.©Standard Gazette, 2021.
