Fifty students from Ofafa Jericho High School in Nairobi have been hospitalized after inhaling smoke while putting out a school fire.
Even though no student got burnt in the Monday night incident, some students suffered severe smoke inhalation.
“We received 50 young men reported to have been in a fire incident at their school. They tried to put out the fire and in the process inhaled the smoke. Most of them have suffered smoke inhalation attacks,” said Metropolitan Hospital Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Kanyenje Gakombe.
The inferno, whose origin is yet to be established, was finally put out by firefighters from the county government and police officers.
Property of unknown value, including students’ belongings, was devastated in the fire.
