The number of people who killed themselves in 2021 in Kisii, south-western Kenya has been revealed.

Kisii County Police boss Francis Kooli said 93 committed suicide from January to December last year.

14 persons (13 males and 1 female) committed suicide in the county between July and September.

Three occurred in July, ten occurred in August, and one occurred in September.

Kisii Central had the largest number of instances with nine, followed by Gucha South (three), Kisii South (two), Sameta (one), and Kenya (one).

Kooli wants the public to be sensitized over the matter.

“It is past time for us to go out and educate our people about the need for discussion and consultation. Suicide is not a viable option,” he explained.
