A Hippo Bites Off A Man's Shoulder In Murang'a

Reading Time: 1 minute

A man has been admitted to the hospital after a hippo attacked him in Ndeere Village in Murang'a County, Central Kenya.

David Njoroge, 50, was in his house when he heard the constant noise of people shouting and calling for help.

"I stepped out of my house when I heard the neighbours screaming, and that's when I came face to face with the beast. I had thought that a thief had probably been cornered stealing farm produce from nearby farms. I had no idea it was a hippo running around," he said.

The hippopotamus plowed through a confused Njoroge and bit off a considerable amount of flesh from his right shoulder.

Njoroge was rescued by neighbours who rushed him to a nearby hospital, where he is undergoing treatment.

The locals have asked Kenya Wildlife Services (KWS) to come to their aid and mitigate the conflict between people and wildlife in the area.
