A 22-year-old man believed to be part of a larger criminal gang that has been terrorizing Kisauni residents is in police custody following his arrest on Sunday night.

Police in Kisauni's Mjambere area pounced on Bonface Simiyu Joseph, who was in a group of five machete-wielding men, on suspicion of planning to stage a felonious attack within the Manyani area.

“In his bid to evade an approaching squad of police on patrol, the suspect scaled a high perimeter wall that provided their cover, but lost his footing thereby making a thunderous fall, face first,” said the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).

Police recovered a machete from the injured Simiyu.

He was accorded medical attention before being booked in cells, pending charges of, among others, preparation to commit a felony.

The rest of the gang members scattered in different directions, managing to slip through nearby bushes and vanish in dark covers.

The police are pursuing them.
