The preparations for the Africa Connected Summit was launched on Monday, September 25, in a Nairobi Hotel.
The event was spearheaded by Kenya’s Information, Communications and the Digital Economy Cabinet Secretary Eliud Owalo.
Owalo said that the summit will host high-level Africa ICT discussions and demonstrate Kenya’s digital economy and ICT capabilities.

He further noted that the summit will help accelerate Kenya’s digital transformation and address economic recovery efforts across the continent.
“I have recently released the scorecard for the Ministry of Information, Communications and the Digital Economy. This scorecard speaks to some of the focal concerns during the Connected Summit 2023,” said Owalo.
“We are assembled here not just to reflect on our experience so far, but also to launch the Connected Summit 2024. From the small meeting of 2009, the summit is poised to become a continental forum, the Africa ICT Forum, from next year, 2024.”
He noted that the Connected Kenya Summit has become a source of great ICT ideas and solutions to existing and emerging technology challenges and has placed Kenya on the global map as a leading technology hub.
“We are the home of such unique and innovative technologies as Mpesa, which President William Ruto, this week, said would partner with the United States for a global uptake.
Kenya has clearly carved its niche in the digital space, not only as the African Silicon Valley but also as a global digital hub of very significant note.
“Another Connected outcome is the Kenya National Digital Master Plan (2022-32). Our inspiration to implement all these ICT initiatives draws from our national and global commitments, as codified in various instruments, such as the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal, Kenya’s Vision 2030 and the Constitution of Kenya, 2010; as well as the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA),” added Owalo.
In pursuit of this vision, the CS revealed that the government of Kenya has adopted a structured delivery of ICT Infrastructure, e-government Services, digital skilling of citizens, and ICT Innovation and enterprise.
He further noted that the government has installed over 5,000 km of fibre in partnership with the private sector, improving connectivity in all 47 counties and accelerating automation and digitization for all government core services at the National and County Government levels.
Other areas of partnership with the private sector include last-mile digital inclusion through Wi-Fi, the digital superhighway, and digital skills training for the youth.
“In cyber security, we have already agreed with 15 partners who will begin a variety of training programs in cybersecurity from next month, and Citizens training for 5 million EOI is ongoing, among other things recommended at the last Connected Summit.
“Additionally, I have recently gazetted a sector working group to review all policies and regulatory frameworks for both the ICT and Telecoms areas. This is line with one of the Summit proposals earlier this year. This Forum is very significant for all of us, as we put our minds together on how, as Kenya, we will host the Africa Conference next year,” said Owalo.
