The Africa Fertilizer and Soil Health (AFSH) Summit 2024 officially began in Nairobi, Kenya, on May 7.
The three-day event brings together heads of government, stakeholders and ministers.
The summit aims to bring together key stakeholders to highlight the critical role of fertilizer and soil health in promoting long-term, inclusive productivity growth in African agriculture.
During the event, an agreement on an action plan for African Fertilizer and Soil Health will be reached in conjunction with the Soils Initiative for Africa.
The anticipated outcome includes the endorsement of a 10-year Action Plan containing tangible recommendations for actions to be undertaken by African leaders and stakeholders over the next decade.
This plan will guide the implementation of new policies and investments to enhance soil health, thereby boosting fertilizer effectiveness, increasing crop yields, and improving farmers’ profitability.
Additionally, the Action Plan is anticipated to receive endorsement from prominent private and public sector stakeholders across African nations.
This endorsement will encompass the Nairobi Declaration, the 10-year Action Plan, the Soil Initiative for Africa (SIA), and the financing mechanism for implementing the Action Plan.
