The 11th AFRIPOL Steering Committee meeting that began on May 3, 2023, concluded on Thursday in Tunisia.
The Steering Committee Members, led by the President of the AFRIPOL General Assembly, Mr. Japhet Koome, who is also the Chief of Police in Kenya, concluded by paying a visit to Tunisia’s Salembo Police Academy in Tunis, where they were hosted by the Tunisian General Director of National Security – Mr. Mourad Saidan.
Established in 1972 during the post-independence Tunisia, Salembo Police Academy traces its rich history to the 1845 French Colony of Tunisia.

Tunisia also has the University of Enfidha established to train high-level Police Officers and create laboratories and development.
During the tour, members from AFRIPOL and the Academy staff discussed, among other key strategic issues, the available collaboration opportunities for training/education between Tunisia and police agencies in the AFRIPOL Member States.
Also present was the AU representative- Mr. Peter Otim, Ambassador Jalel CHELBA-Ag. Executive Director of AFRIPOL and African Regional Chiefs of Police Organisations.
