On July 5, 2022, a Multi-Agency Security team recovered an AK-47 assault rifle, four rounds of ammunition and a magazine in Laikipia, Kenya's Rift Valley.

The police report indicates that the security team had received information concerning an attack by bandits in the Dam Moran area, where a total of 15 goats and sheep were stolen.

In a struggle to prevent the rustlers from stealing his animals, Joseph Ekwam Lotoruk was shot twice on his shoulder and leg.

The rustlers were pursued and cornered on their way to Samburu. One bandit was fatally injured and succumbed to the injuries after he defied orders to surrender and fired back at security officers.

One of the bandits was arrested and is in custody at Ol-Moran police station pending collection by DCI Laikipia West.
