A five-story building has collapsed in Ruiru, Kiambu County, Central Kenya.
The building collapsed on Monday morning at 4 am, just a few hours after the tenants evacuated following cracks that were witnessed on its pillars.
Kiambu Governor Kimani Wamatangi and firefighters on Sunday afternoon led the evacuation mission.
"Tenants can no longer stay in this house because its columns- which are supposed to support it have cracked. It cannot stand for long. If not for the neighbouring house supporting it, it could already be down," said Governor Wamatangi.
This is the second building in Kiambu to collapse within one week. Another 5-story building collapsed in Ruaka, Kiambu County, on November 17.
The building collapsed on an adjacent house, killing two tenants.©Standard Gazette, 2021.
