Four people were injured on Sunday after a vehicle they were travelling in was attacked by a group of bandits in Turkana, north-western Kenya.

The incident took place along Kapenguria-Lodwar Road. A group of about eight robbers were reported to have intercepted the vehicle before opening fire through the windshield.

The taxi driver was among those injured as he was shot in the chest. Three others were shot in their heads and legs.

"The criminals proceeded to the vehicle and robbed some of the occupants' things before fleeing," said police.

According to police, a passenger grabbed control of the vehicle and drove it to Kainuk Medical Dispensary, where the injured were given first aid before being transported to Kapenguria County Referral Hospital.

A manhunt for the thugs is underway.
