A 17-year-old boy was on Thursday night killed by a stray bullet in the Kiamaiko estate in Nairobi following a melee that ensued between police officers and public members.

The police report stated that the officers who were on patrol encountered a suspicious vehicle. Upon stopping the said motor vehicle, the driver alighted. A scuffle ensued whereby public members mobilized themselves and began hurling stones at the alleged officers as they demanded to know why the vehicle was flagged down.

The officers were forced to shoot in the air to disperse the irate mob. It was then when the deceased was struck by one of the bullets while on the balcony of their rental house.

He was rushed to a nearby hospital but succumbed to the injuries. The body was taken to the morgue awaiting autopsy.

A probe into the killing has been launched.
