The Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) handball championship began on Monday, November 7, 2022, at Ulinzi Sports Complex, Nairobi.
The ceremony was presided over by the Chairman of the Defence Forces Handball Association (DFHA), Brigadier Mboya Mwenga.
The annual KDF Handball tournament incorporates handball teams from various Units, Formations, and Bases of the Kenya Defence Forces.
In his opening remarks, Brigadier Mwenga underscored the importance of the tournament activities in physically grooming the soldiers and enhancing symbiotic relationships between different formations and bases.
"By bringing together teams from our various Formations and Bases, handball, like any other sports discipline, not only contribute towards physical fitness but also enhances Espirit de Corps in our Kenya Defence Forces," he said.
Additionally, the Championship will enable recruiting officers to identify new talents and inject them into Kenya Defence Forces Handball teams.
The event saw defending champions Artillery Brigade beat their rival Armoured Brigade 27 points against 19 points in a thrilling opening match marking an excellent start to their campaign in defending the title. On the other hand, Engineers Brigade beat Fourth Brigade 36 against 22 points.
In the Women's category, Artillery brigade ladies and the defending champions trounced their Kahawa Garrison counterparts 24 against 20 points in a highly contested match.
