The Kenyan Judiciary is in mourning following the passing of Hon. Justice Fredrick Ochieng Andago, a respected Judge of the Court of Appeal, who left us this week.
In a heartfelt statement, Chief Justice Martha Koome, who also leads the Judicial Service Commission (JSC), honored Justice Ochieng as a significant figure in Kenya’s legal community, noting that his contributions to the evolution of commercial law will be remembered for years to come.
“On behalf of the Judiciary and the Judicial Service Commission, I share the deeply saddening news of the passing of Hon. Justice Fredrick Ochieng Andago, Judge of the Court of Appeal of Kenya. Our heartfelt condolences go out to his family, friends, colleagues, and the entire Judiciary during this profoundly sorrowful time,” CJ Koome expressed.
Justice Ochieng began his journey in the Judiciary in 2003 as a Judge of the High Court, serving in various divisions and locations, including Kitale, Kakamega, Kisumu, as well as in the Civil, Criminal, and Commercial and Admiralty Divisions. He was promoted to the Court of Appeal in 2022.
At the time of his passing, he was the Chairperson of the Court Annexed Mediation Taskforce, leading efforts to implement Court-Annexed Mediation nationwide—an initiative designed to alleviate case backlogs through alternative dispute resolution methods.
Before his time in the Judiciary, Justice Ochieng had a remarkable career as an advocate at Kaplan & Stratton Advocates, spanning nearly two decades.
CJ Koome urged Kenyans to unite in support of the Judiciary and the family of the late judge.
“We stand together with his family, friends, and the entire Judiciary community during this challenging time of mourning. We ask for sensitivity and compassion as we navigate this shared grief. May Hon. Justice Fred Ochieng’s soul find eternal peace,” she concluded.
