A 12-year-old girl drowned in a river in Gendo Village, Homa Bay County, Kenya’s Southwestern, on Sunday evening.

The incident transpired when the minor was washing her clothes in the company of her siblings.

According to witnesses, the youngster went to fetch water from the bridge while washing their clothes, slid, and drowned in the river.

Members of the public responded to the scene and were able to recover the deceased corpse before it was turned over to the police, who took it to the mortuary.

Reports show the river was swollen due to the ongoing rains pounding different parts of the country.

To prevent these mishaps, the local government has asked parents to keep an eye on their kids at all times.
