Police in Kenya are holding a 33-year-old man accused of hacking his brother to death over a three-seater couch.
The incident transpired in Kamakwa, Central Kenya, on Tuesday night of August 31, 2021.
According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the deceased, Joseph Maina Kariuki,36, had gone to his younger brother’s house, Elias Muriithi Kariuki, to possess the couch following an order from his mother, a move that the latter was opposed to.
A scuffle ensued between the two, and Muriithi is said to have brandished a machete, which he used to slash his brother before smashing his head.
After the incident, the suspect marched to a nearby police station to escape from locals baying for his blood.
Police arrested him and immediately rushed to the scene only to find the victim lying lifeless in a pool of blood.
“The scene was processed by Crime Scene detectives, and legal procedures pending the arraignment of the suspect have since been initiated,” said DCI.
