The Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) on Monday, February 26, 2024, held a meeting with a delegation from the International Institute for Justice and the Rule of Law (IIJ).
The IIJ team was led by the Executive Secretary, Mr. Steven Hill, and the Director of Programs, Ms. Gail Malone.
Their discussion focused on areas of cooperation and collaboration. The areas discussed reflected previous cooperation, including the IIJ’s support in developing the draft ‘ODPP Guidelines on Mutual Legal Assistance for Prosecutors.

Other areas included identifying lessons learned, assessing possible steps to be taken, and exploring future opportunities for judicial cooperation that could benefit Kenyan institutions in charge of mutual legal assistance (MLA) and extradition.
“We began its partnership with IIJ in 2022 through the project “Building Strong Procedural Mechanisms for Mutual Legal Assistance (MLA),” a project aimed at reinforcing judicial cooperation between Kenya and Somalia and more so in the investigation of terrorism and transnational organized crimes,” said the Office of the Director of Public Prosecution (ODPP).
The institute is committed to fulfilling its mission by developing and implementing customized capacity-building initiatives and events.
These programs seek to help governments and legal professionals deal with the dynamic and complex aspects of modern terrorism and related transnational crimes in a practical, efficient, and collaborative manner.
