Police rescued a businesswoman in Kitengela, on Nairobi’s outskirts, after she sneaked into her neighbour’s bedroom.
Shemim Odhiambo entered Harrison Chege’s cereal shop and went to an adjacent bedroom on a short call when the owner was gone.
Chege stated that when he returned, he heard movements in the bedroom before seeing Ms Odhiambo hiding under the bed and raising the alarm.
“I had just stepped out of my shop, but when I returned, I noticed a disturbance inside my next bedroom. When I went to check, I discovered a familiar face under the bed. I sounded the alarm and locked the door from the outside. I’m stunned since I have no idea what she’s up to,” said Chege.
On the other hand, the suspect rejected the claims of theft, claiming she was forced into the bedroom when she went to ask for money for a drink she had previously sold to the complainant.
“I had sold him (the complainant) a soda and I went to get the money. He questioned my prayer partners who had visited my shop earlier before pushing me into his bedroom and raising the alarm. I’m not a thief,” said the woman.
Police had a hard time controlling the crowd as they tried to glimpse the suspect.
