Driver Jailed For Stealing Petroleum

Text Size:

A Kiambu court in Central Kenya has sentenced a driver to 10 years imprisonment for stealing 44,000 litres of petroleum, property of Vivo Energy Uganda.

Principal Magistrate Wilson Rading convicted Kamugisha Mustafa Ismail of Sibed Transporters Company Limited after Prosecutor Lindsey Mugambi proved that he stole the petroleum in Eldoret, a town in Kenya’s North Rift, which was destined for Uganda.

According to the court, Mustafa set the tanker on fire at Malaba, the Border of Kenya and Uganda, to conceal evidence.

The prosecution availed a similar 24-wheeler tanker to demonstrate that it takes longer to open a tank seal. To refute the defence allegation, it took the accused only 5 minutes to open all seven tank seals to prevent an explosion.

The prosecution also called fire experts to demonstrate how different products burn, considering the trailer slowly burnt out and didn’t explode.

The prosecution proved that the tanker didn’t explode because it didn’t have fuel.
