The East African Community Regional Force (EACRF) deployed in the Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo on Sunday, January 29, 2023, restored water supply to residents of four neighbourhoods.

The neighbourhoods include Kabaya, Biluma, Rumangabo and nearby villages in the Rutshuru territory after repairing, servicing and fuelling a faulty generator.

According to Kenya Defence Force (KDF), the generator, pumping water from river Ndata, has been unserviceable for over a week, forcing residents to walk long distances to get the crucial commodity.

The troops also repaired a damaged section of the pipe supplying water from the river to two villages for maximum efficiency.

The locals thanked the troops for the support and the provision of security in the area.

The troops are currently occupying Kibumba and Rumangabo in line with the Luanda Communiqué that provided for the occupation of areas vacated by M23 by the regional force supported by the Ad-Hoc Verification Mechanism.

In areas where M23 has yet to vacate, the Luanda Communique provides that the EAC Heads of State shall authorize using force to compel the Armed Group to comply.

"EACRF calls for continued collaboration among the locals, state and non-state actors in the ongoing peace and stability efforts in Eastern," said KDF.
