Environment and Climate Change Principal Secretary Eng. Festus Nge’no hosted Correctional Services Principal Secretary Ms.Mary Muthoni Muriuki at his office on Wednesday.
In their discussions, PS Nge’no said that based on the high consumption of energy in Prisons, the two departments can work together to reduce expenses by adopting environmentally friendly energy sources.
The PS reiterated the need to adopt the Solid Waste Management Act 2022 (SWMA-2020) in the Prison system.

He said that the act seeks to address sewerage use and disposal menace while advocating for a paradigm shift from a linear to a circular economy.
On her part, PS Mary lauded PS Nge’no for his efforts in cascading the SWMA-2022 to the county level.
PS Muthoni said that the Prisons are open to partnering with the Environment sector to support each other in service delivery to Kenyans.
