Five Kenyans die after consuming illicit brew

Five people have died, and others hospitalized in Kenya after consuming illicit brew in Kenya.

The Tuesday incident transpired in Bahati Sub-County in Nakuru, northwest of Nairobi.

Three bodies were discovered in various locations, whereas the other two breathed their last while undergoing treatment in Bahati County Hospital.

The superintendent in charge of the hospital, Dr. Kennedy Owino, told the media that four others including a pregnant woman were receiving medical attention at the facility.

According to Dr. Owino, the victims were admitted to the facility by relatives, police, and public members. They are exhausted and unable to communicate.

He noted they are suffering from intoxication.

The victims are reported to have drunk the brew at a local brewing den on Monday evening.

The deceased were transferred to the morgue awaiting autopsy.

Police have launched investigations into the matter and pursuing the seller behind the brewing of the stuff said to be on the run.

“We have been sensitizing the people on the need to be very vigilant because we suspected that lethal illicit brews from other counties were going to find their way to Nakuru,” said Nakuru police boss.
